Our goal is for students to be fit and healthy. We can be flexible enough to give them that choice here because we know that following subjects you're passionate about leads to greater success. A day of forward-thinking and big ideas: progressive thinkers and changemakers coming together to share stories, ideas, conversations and a really nice lunch. In the summer term there is a 'Sports day' in which the houses compete against each other. Our Outdoor Education programme runs from Forest Classes for the youngest students, Duke of Edinburgh challenges for older students through to overseas ventures, mountaineering and exploring for the sixth form students. This manifests itself in the alarming increase in anxiety, depression and self-harm. The idea of individuality is also encouraged so that an individual's talents and personality are developed. We do have discipline but here it means encouraging change and growth. The heart of Frensham, the ethos if you like, has remained constant for over 90 years. Instead of a means to encourage competition and as a divisive force, the role of Houses at Frensham is to act as a socialising force once a term as each year group (7–8, 9–10, 11–13) plays a variety of House matches in a sport (football, basketball, netball or hockey). Likewise, we encourage and empower our teachers to be open minded, to take risks and to be creative in their teaching. Prior to year 11, students partake in sports including rugby, basketball, hockey and football and athletics, rounders and swimming in the summer term but have no choice in which the activity occurs. Because of the belief in the importance of the individual, Frensham Heights has a very active Sixth Form Committee and School Council which play an active part in the running of the school. We are looking for people who will be supportive and work in a team environment. The school's ethos revolves around the idea of mutual respect between teachers and pupils and as such, staff are referred to by their first name by pupils. As a result, they actually are 'mature, free, courageous and happy'. We welcome students from the age of 3 to 18 and we give them the tools to succeed in their education, helping them to extend their abilities and exceed their own expectations. It's much easier to put children in a carefully constructed box and do everything for them but that isn't how the real world works.
The school encourages fair and just competitions so therefore has a sports day. What’s the point in a child who’s already really good at multiplication spending an hour doing another 20 multiplications?
