Today, he sent me an email essentially saying that based on my desired salary and career goals, they think I am no longer a good fit. I knew the range beforehand but during my initial interview the supervising manager told me it was negotiable.
I'm not terribly experienced with interviews (it's a pain in the ass to get even that far sometimes) but I miss the days when companies wanted us, not the other way around. Regarding the "written offer", it doesn't have much meaning when you're trying to change the written offer.
), I'm a new grad looking for my first real job, I interviewed for a Lead Software Engineer role at a very early stage startup that promised a high salary, they probably caught on that they might have hired someone who did not match their required experience level, Yup, I would strongly agree ... why would you hire a new grad for lead role? I ran into a similar situation a few years ago. Yes, recruiters will rescind a job offer during negotiations. Thank you for the thoughtful input, it very much makes sense but I'm unsure if it describes this situation.

For example, I recruit international candidates. I am going to guess that they will be getting a little talk from someone in the HR department as well. The fact that they were against any type of negotiation is a red flag.
I was surprised to see a salary so much lower than the lowest salary they had listed on angellist. I purposefully didn't share it to respect the privacy of the company. If you don't mind me asking, can you provide me some insight as to what caused your decision to rescind the offer?
My resume clearly states my graduation date and my impressive though somewhat limited experience. Last week I was offered a communications job at a small college in a big city.
I was given a tight deadline to respond (less than one day). If you earn more than the founders so what - they own the company, you just work there, of course you can get more. Thanks everyone!
Fast forward one week later (yesterday) and I receive a bitchy email from the HR Assistant saying that they were unable to move forward with the employment offer because I did not respond to her directly, but contacted the supervising manager instead. Withdrawing the offer was harsh, given they were professional about how they asked for things -- in their shoes I probably would have said "we're excited to have you, but I'm afraid that after agreeing to time off up front we are not able to change any other terms.".
I still think they really dodged a bullet not working at this company though. Their budget for a new grad was probably lower. Offer Rescinded after Negotiation Attempt.
If I could find whoever keeps marking these transcription posts as spam, I'd probably ban them at this point.
If you'd like more information on what we do and why we do it, click here! I am also getting married and plan to take PTO for 2 weeks.
This happened for me about flex time.
(And it wasn't the CTO's fault, who is a friend of mine now. If you want to be a professional, you have to act like one. Negotiating has a reward, and rewards aren't risk free.
In order to cover the gap between being insured through my current employer and reaching 90 days at [REDACTED], I will need to elect COBRA. However, there's another possibility. While there may be exceptions, this isn’t normal practice. The guy said that if they gave me much more money my salary would be higher than any of the co-founders, It's literally just 3 guys (the co-founders) and a few sales associates, and they didn't even fly me out for the "onsite."
That was a huge red flag. Strangely the offer was 25% less than the lowest end of the salary range listed on their angellist. I didn't think OP asked for too much at all. Because of this, the two situations that usually trigger a rescinded offer are: The candidate behaves in such a way, post-offer, that the hiring team decides they cannot work together. I think our predatory oligarch class is the biggest current threat to the well-being of the U.S. and its citizens. Got an offer low-balling my wage expectations, so I waited a day or two to see if a better offer came in from other places where I had interviewed (two of them did come in).
A subreddit for those with questions about working in the tech industry or in a computer-science-related job. If they are willing to rescind an offer over minor negotiation you can say goodbye to getting good raises and performance reviews. Cookies help us deliver our Services.
I'm just confused as I wished to accept. This doesn’t happen overnight and it takes years of experience to acquire the necessary skills to become a lead dev. Being a lead dev means that you have lots of technical experience.
So it's not obvious to me what about my experience was not apparent earlier in the process.
Yes, the 90 day probation period without benefits is crappy, but a company generally does that because they have high turnover and they *don't* want to spend money for someone that may not work out -- not because they want to pay *more.*. LPT: Job offer rescinded after salary negotiation attempt. Clearly, I'm very inexperienced, curious if I did anything wrong here. They decided to go with the next interchangeable part who would accept their offer unconditionally. These don't sound like the kind of people you want to work for.
Sounds like they were setting a trap rather than offering you a job.
I'm a human volunteer content transcriber for Reddit and you could be too! My resume clearly states my graduation date and my impressive though somewhat limited experience.
level 1 She said she would forward my request to the Director, and she even called me later that day to say she "made a good case" to HR and that we'd see what came back. It's extremely rude at the absolute best. Eh, I'm all for sticking it to the companies but I think they were pretty badly overplaying their hand. I did not mean any offense by my previous email.
I thought you were a bot at first and was extremely surprised- I couldn’t get Google’s Tesseract to read a gift card reliably much less an entire email thread with the proper bold-font. 3 Employers cannot withdraw an offer for discriminatory reasons, such as race, religion, sexual orientation, age, or gender. It’s good that you were able to accomplish all those things with your app, but you’re not a lead dev yet. I found out in our last conversation that they're actually pre-seed meaning they've been unable to raise in the last year that they've been out of their accelerator. Last week I was offered a communications job at a small college in a big city.
If truly overqualified, they will be bored with the work while earning less than what they are worth. what was the salary?
Also, during my conversation with this cofounder of this company, I found out that the lead engineer role would never involve any actual leadership or management as I would be the only engineer and they weren't looking to add many more engineers anytime soon. I called the supervising manager the next day and requested a higher salary, given my extensive experience and the requirements of the position. It is obvious whoever is in charge of the hiring is looking for any excuse to under pay and over work their employees. Or is the HR Assistant on a crazy ego-trip. level 2
There was also no HR representative in either interview that I had, and an assistant position usually implies that person is in a supportive and not a decision-making role. I would like to propose a starting balance of 15 days of PTO in my first year at [REDACTED]. When rescinding an offer, it is always best to discuss the reasons with your human resources department, if possible, or get another professional opinion. Tell them that you didn't realize who was in charge. As for you, it should have been a simple matter of calling the main number and requesting the HR department if you really wanted to get in touch with them.
Using tricks like you mention to bring in a person might have some short terms advantages, but in the long run it does more damage than it's worth. Yeah, besides, they could have responded with a counteroffer. Tips that improve your life in one way or another.
I wish you the best of luck in all future career decisions. That sounds exactly like what happened. It's totally legal for them to do that, but it Just Isn't Done. You have the title but not the expertise.
The guy also said that if they increased my salary I would be making more than any of the cofounders lol. In exchange for these concessions, I plan to fully embrace the Account Service Coordinator role, preparing myself to obtain my Agent's license, and helping lead [REDACTED] to success in it's growth and reputation in the marketplace. As we had discussed on Friday, March 15th, I have a vacation booked from May 31st - June 7th.
This subreddit is for all of those recruiters and candidates who really don't get it.
I did. Asking for a few weeks of time off up front is pretty unusual -- it sounds like they cleared that at the interview, but it's still a pretty big ask. My recommendation is that you take the high road on this and not say or do anything that would make you look anything less than professional. Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
As a result, I would like to propose a $1,500 sign on bonus in order to cover this expense and prevent myself from incurring any financial loss during this period. Other places I've had offers from usually wait 3 or 4 days before following up to ask if I had made a decision. Perhaps. Posted by 1 year ago.
