Is the extra money for the 21k really worth it? Things like the size and weight of the pen or the nib material and geometry do affect how a pen feels to us despite not strictly affecting smoothness. I used to have one that was exactly the same size as most 14k nibs. :D. yeah I have a few of Sailor 14k and 21k nibs in the same size, FM. Sailor 14k vs 21k. I have looked into both the sailor lefty and the pilot waverly nibs and maybe I would consider them if they were at a slightly lower price. Currently I have a Pilot Custom 74 with a Fine nib but I don’t really like it, I find it a bit scratchy and since I’m a lefty it’s not a pleasant scratch. Since you mentioned Pilot, might I suggest one with one of their Waverly nibs? If you’re going for the smoothest possible nib, you might want to look away from Sailor. I think if you can save up the money, this would be your best bet, though. sizewise, the 21k is about as small of a pen and nib as I'd want, the 14k nib is actually a little smaller as well as the pen itself and I think would just be a little too small for me. Imo, pilot nibs are smoother than sailor nibs. I greatly prefer the Posting (PO) nib. Having said that, a lot of other factors go into our perception of a smooth nib. 14K and 21K nibs are different sizes (feed diameter and nib dimensions are a but larger for 21K nibs), Not always. I want the smoothest possible nib and whichever I get, it will be a Medium. It does I have feedback, but I like it and it's not scratchy, it's just like someone made the nib as smooth as possible and then added back a little bite so you could feel the nib on paper. Don't know how things are with the Pro Gear but for the 1911 the price difference was 20$, so not that big of a deal.
