Jacob Henry, A&R of Silk Royal Records, has been interested in electronic music since first hearing Robert Miles' now legendary album, "Dreamland." The soothing and melodic sounds of Chicane's "Far from the Maddening Crowds" and BT's "ESCM" were also influential in defining his electronic musical taste. Now a rising Philadelphia-based DJ and producer, Jacob's style can best be described as melodic progressive house.
DJ Highlights:This past year, Jacob appeared as a guest DJ on various international radio shows, including Nosmo v. Kris B's "The Influence", Yvel & Tristan's "Foundation Hours", Andrew Howlett's" Dancefloor Radio", DJ Slang's "Silk Progrance," and Alexey Sonar's "Orange Moon". He also DJ's regularly in the Mid-Atlantic area, including events w/ Activa, Tom Colontonio, Victor Dinaire, Kaskade, Creamer & K, Stoneface & Terminal, and Ronski Speed. Every third Tuesday of the month (8-10pm EST), you can also hear Jacob on the Proton Radio show "Silk Royal Showcase." Past guests include Matt Cerf, Bart Van Wissen, and Audible, and in the months to come, Incognet and Proff will appear on the show.
Production Credits:Jacob is excited to announce a busy release schedule in 2009, beginning with the atmospheric progressive track, "Talisker," in February. The track has been played by on various radio stations around the world, including Frisky Radio, Proton, and DI.FM, and strong feedback and support have been given by Miss Nine, D:Fuse, Mango, Derek Howell, and Solila. In addition, Jacco@Work, Gorm Sorensen (a.k.a Airillusions), and Approaching Black have lent a hand on remix duties. Also arriving in the first half of 2009 -- Jacob's tech house experiment "Regular Fellas," which will be released on the newly formed Microcastle Music (formerly Release Records). The release, which includes remixes by Ad Brown, Stallos, Glide, and Peter Martin, received a number 1 ranking on the Progressivehouse.com promo charts and has been supported by Hernan Cattaneo, Cid Inc, Darin Epsilon, Matt Rowan, & Kris B. Stay tuned for additional releases in the latter half of the year on Silk Digital Records and its affiliates, as well as the debut of "Civil Servants" -- a collaborative alias with Karen Gross.
Silk Royal Profile: May 2009 marked the arrival of Silk Royal Records, an affiliate of Russian-based progressive label Silk Digital Records (www.silkdigitalrecords.com). As label manager of Silk Royal, Jacob intends to showcase more dancefloor-oriented progressive house tracks, which still have the sophistication and emotional energy characteristic of all Silk releases to date.
